Description | Twelve-panel comic strip shows Happy Hooligan and three of his friends heading for the airport to watch a stunt aviator. When the plane takes off, Happy's umbrella is snagged on the tail and Happy goes with it. He eventually falls off, but the umbrella serves as a parachute and Happy lands safely -- on his three friends. Frederick Opper first drew Happy Hooligan in 1900, and the strip continued for more than 30 years. Happy was a feckless Irish tramp with a tin can for hat. This strip is unusual in that Happy's misadventures do not end in disaster. |
