Description | Two panel comic strip shows Olive Oyl gratified that Popeye's Poopdeck Pappy is returning books to the library. Pappy, however, is disgruntled, telling the librarian in the Children's Section that the books are "too difficult." Popeye was begun by E.C. Segar in 1919 with the title Thimble theatre. Popeye did not even appear in it until 1929, but the tough but simple sailor quickly dominated the strip. After Segar's death in 1938, the strip was continued by a number of artists, including Bobby London, who drew it in the 1980s and early 1990s. |
