Description | Two single-panel comic strips. The first shows the Ladies Club attending an auction where they watch, but don't bid. The auctioneer is offering an "antique match-box that was used by Nero when he set fire to Rome" starting at a dime. The second strip shows one of the identical twins coming home with a bottle of rye in his back pocket. The other, leaning out a window, asks "Why does everybody want to go to the President's inauguration?" The first replies, "To see what his wife is wearing." Both strips were among the numerous comics drawn by Rube Goldberg, but he was best known for his famous "Inventions" and for his editorial cartoons in the 1940s and 1950s. |
