Description | Four-panel comic strip is one of sequence in which Jiggs, a wealthy Irishman of humble origins, his social-climbing wife Maggie, their daughter Nora, and a friend in a turban with a bushy beard, Dinty Moore, travel to Japan. In this strip, Jiggs and Dinty are being given a tour. When the guide points out a famous brewery, Jiggs and Dinty bolt from the tour, reappearing in the last panel in the brewery on ladders investigating a large vat. Jiggs notes that "It tastes a little young," but Dinty responds, "Well- it's not gonna git any older." The joke reflects the underlying gag of the strip that no matter how pretentious the circumstances, Jiggs prefers the homely comforts of friends and beer. |
