Description | Photographs show Eames Office staff at work on projects, including many informal individual and group portraits, of Charles, Ray, and staff; friends--Eero Saarinen and family, Alexander Girard and family, Billy and Audrey Wilder, and Lee Krasner Pollock, among others; works of art by friends; family; social events, such as farewell parties for departing staff, picnics, and entertainment of business contacts at home and at the office. Some images used to document and design exhibitions (some sponsored by IBM)--chiefly Mathematica, New York World's Fair, National Aquarium, and Photography and the City; multiscreen presentations; films (including "Spirit of St. Louis," "Panic on Wall Street," "San Francisco Fire," "Tops," and mock-up for an early (1963) version of "Powers of Ten"); furniture (chiefly aluminum group, airport seating, and Eames contract storage (ECU)); toys (House of Cards, Big Toy and Little Toy, masks, the Revell Doll House, and the solar do-nothing machine); architecture, including drawings and models for Case Study House No. 8, Kwikset house, Billy Wilder house and porch, Max De Pree house, and showrooms for Herman Miller. Many images show the link between work and pleasure and demonstrate the Eameses' interest in everyday life and objects through photographs of flowers, food, etc.; circuses; parades; trips (including Tunis, Tunisia, and Mexico); aerial photographs; people used in models; and typography and graphic designs used in exhibitions and promotional materials. Also includes copies of photographs and prints used in exhibitions. |
