Description | Photographs are mostly studio portraits of members of Harvey's Greater Minstrels and the Silas Green Company. The album is believed to have been compiled by Slim Jim (William H.) Austin, a trombonist, dancer, and comedian who performed with both minstrel troupes. Also depicted are members of Austin's family, some of whom were also minstrel performers. Sitters include minstrel troupe members: Slim Jim Austin; Clarence Powell (newspaper clipping portrait); Miss Josie Graham; Sallie Goldman; Billy Tucker; Essie Payne; Edna White; R.M. Harvey, owner of Harvey's Greater Minstrels (newspaper clipping portrait); Irwin Richardson; Frank Kirk (newspaper clipping portrait); Austin & Delany; Minnie Watts; Kate Moss; Billy Beard (newspaper or magazine clipping portrait); Helen Cotton Johnson; Ragtime Billy Tucker; Frosty Moore; Bills Bosswick; James Thomas (A.S. Knots) Willie Payne; Printice Griffin; Lee Goldman; Emmett Moss; Alonzo Moore; Whitney Viney; Beechum & Johnson comedy duo; Elmer Payne; and Duke Anderson. Family photos depict Austin's brothers Frank and Charlie, his sister Vera and mother Venus, his niece Vera, James Coleman, Corinne Burnett Bradford Johnson, a dancer for Silas Green, with Lavoisier Bradford (parents of Dorcas Lloyd); boxer Jack Johnson (Tijuana, Mexico), "Pancho Villa's 1st son" (Lavoisier Bradford), George Washington Burnett (father of Corinne Burnett Bradford Johnson); Connie Bradford Johnson ("stepdaughter of Johnson and Jack Johnson"), Dorcas Lloyd with her sister Laconia as babies, and Dorcas Lloyd and Connie as children, "when they danced with Silas Green." Also includes newspaper clippings describing performances of Harvey's Greater Minstrels and other minstrel groups in Canada, California, Oregon, Montana, Washington, State and other locations; newspaper updates on travels of Harvey's Greater Minstrels written by Austin; a playbill; one ticket for the Canadian Pacific Co. steamship line; a business card for L.
