Description | Photographs show white and Negro sharecroppers. Priming (harvesting) tobacco early in the morning. Sled, drawn by mule, between rows of plants. Leaves are primed from bottom of plant upwards, and are known as "first priming," "second priming," etc. Families "stringing" tobacco, brought in from field, in bunches and tied on to sticks which are then "put up" in barn to be "fired." or cured. "Topping" (removing blossom) plants. Single flower left on a few plants for seed. Good crop. |
