Spatial Coverage | Appalachian Region |
Description | Appalachia photographs feature portraits of workers, mainly miners, and residents of West Virginia, Kentucky and Alabama, taken over nine different summer trips Rogovin took to the region with his wife Anne. Photographs document religious services, schools, architecture, roads, and the landscape, especially as it is effected by strip mining. Photographs taken later in the series (ca. 1980s) depict workers at the mines and at home with their families. Other topics include women miners, children, and African Americans. Photographs also include unemployed miners Rogovin documented after various mines closed in the region. |
