Description | Four-panel comic strip shows Zonker watching a television program evoking a vision of President Reagan's "Morning in America. Folks having coffee, kids piling into station wagons. Milkmen delivering glass bottles and smiles!" This is followed by an alternate view of Walter Mondale's America: "Five bucks for a quart of milk? Psst! Billy! want some coke? I'm off for my abortion, dear." Reagan ran for reelection in 1984, a time of prosperity, on a "feel good" campaign. His Democratic opponent Walter Mondale was never able to counteract this message with his own more critical appraisal. This strip was published the day before the election. The next day Reagan won with a landslide, taking 49 states. |
