Description | World War II cartoon shows Hitler as a Viking maiden reclining on a couch, being courted by Japanese leader, General Tojo, who presents a valentine. Meanwhile, a disgruntled Mussolini sits on the ground, tethered to a doghouse, and plays with his toy ships in a tub of water labeled "Mare Nostrum." On Hitler's arm, a tattoo reading "Benito" has been crossed out and replaced by "Tojo." By 1942, it had become clear to Hitler that Mussolini (who had grandiose plans for establishing an empire encircling the Mediterranean) was almost worthless as an effective ally. Japan, on the other hand, was rapidly conquering much of East and Southeast Asia. |
