Description | Cartoon shows the Democratic donkey on a stepladder, replacing a portrait of Lincoln with a portrait of Jefferson. Lincoln and Jefferson were considered to be the forebears of the Republican and Democratic parties, respectively. The cartoon was probably drawn as the Republicans ended their presidential convention in Chicago in July 1952 and the Democrats prepared to open their convention in the same city. |
