Description | Cartoon shows two soldiers (labeled "Labor" and "Industry") carrying between them an angry man labeled "Discord." In 1944, after the Montgomery-Ward company failed to obey a government order to hold fair elections, the government took over the executive offices, and when the company chairman, Sewell Avery, refused to leave, soldiers carried him out. The cartoon parodies the famous photograph of the eviction. The cartoonist uses the image to urge greater cooperation between labor and industry during World War II. |
