Description | Cartoon shows Mussolini as a clown with a noise-making device labeled "Greek-Libyan Campaign" and Hitler as a thug carrying a bloody knife and a gun. In 1940, Mussolini, hoping to capitalize on Hitler's conquests, entered World War II on the side of Germany and launched invasions of Greece and North Africa. The Italians were roundly defeated in both campaigns and only saved by German intervention. Mussolini became the object of widespread ridicule, but Hitler was increasingly viewed as a world threat. |
