Description | Cartoon shows Tammany Hall boss John F. Curry and New York County Republican machine boss Samuel S. Koenig standing with their hands on the shoulders of two schoolboys labeled "Aron Steuer" and "Hofstadter." In 1932, in an apparent deal, Tammany Hall and the Republicans nominated the same candidates: Samuel H. Hofstadter, a Republican State senator and Aron Steuer, a Tammany politician, to fill vacancies on the New York Supreme Court. Despite widespread protests, the two men were elected. |
