Description | Twelve-panel Sunday comic strip shows Howland Owl, whose head is stuck inside a tea kettle, running away from Pogo Possum, Porkypine, and Rackety Coon Chile, who think he is a man from Mars. Howland stumbles over Churchy La Femme (the turtle), who is roasting a turkey over a fire. Churchy flees, Howland trips over a log and the kettle flies off his head and lands on the turkey's neck. When Pogo and the other animals arrive, they conclude that the man from Mars has fallen into the fire and prepare to take his body back to Mars to explain his "untimely dee-mise." The strip concludes: "As the fella said when the dog fell into the sausage machine --- 'The W-rst is y-t to c-me!'" Kelly noted in his Ten ever-lovin' years with Pogo that some readers deplored his sense of humor. |
