Description | Cartoon drawing shows England's John Bull, America's Uncle Sam, a German military officer, and a Russian peasant marching up a hill toward an Ottoman Turkish officer, who stands next to a Turkish flag on which a skull and crossbones has been placed next to the crescent moon. Davenport probably drew this cartoon in response the Adana Massacre, which started on April 13, 1909. Some 20,000-30,000 Armenians were killed in clashes in that and nearby cities over a one-month period. |
