Description | Cartoon shows two men labeled "airmchair strategists" sitting in armchairs on top of a classic cartoonish bomb. They discuss military preparedness and their willingness to fight. After the detonation of the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, at the end of World War II, world leaders and scientists alike discussed the issue of their use in military force. Although the United States was the only world power to have used nuclear weapons in 1945, it did not take long for the Soviet Union, England, France and China to manufacture them. Willard Combes drew for the Cleveland Press for 28 years. |
