Description | Cartoon shows President Roosevelt in a fishing boat with a man wearing a mortarboard hat, labeled "New Dealer." Beneath the boat swims a large fish labeled "A New Recovery Program." Roosevelt says, "He's down there all right! -- It's just a question of what bait he will go for!" Many of the president's New Deal Advisors came from the academic community. In 1935, the Supreme Court struck down, as unconstitutional, the National Industrial Recovery Act, one of the keystones of the New Deal. The president continued to try to pass a new recovery act for a number of years. |
