Description | Cartoon shows former New York governor Al Smith with his hat suspended over a ring labeled "1932." Smith says, "I haven't put it in and I'm not going to take it out!" Although he was decisively defeated when he ran for president in 1928, Smith continued to toy with idea of running again in 1932. When he finally decided to run again, he lost out to Franklin Roosevelt who won the Democratic nomination and ultimately the presidency. |
