Description | Cartoon shows Charles Wayland Bryan (brother of William Jennings Bryan) defiantly facing the GOP elephant, who holds a sign reading: "Coolidge Will Quit in 1929." Bryan says, "Coolidge hasn't changed the situation! It's YOU that we're going to lick." Bryan was badly defeated when he ran as the Democratic vice presidential candidate with John W. Davis against President Coolidge in 1924. Undaunted, Bryan continued to be active in Democratic politics for many years. Coolidge indeed did decline to serve another term, but the Republicans won the White House again in 1928. |
