Description | Cartoon shows humorist Will Rogers inviting former President Coolidge to join him in the "Daily Letter Swimming Hole." Rogers says, "Welcome Cal! It's a noble experiment." For a year after he left the presidency, Coolidge wrote a daily column for the McClure Syndicate. Leaning toward the platitudinous, it did not compare with the witty homespun writings of Will Rogers. The "Noble Experiment" was a term (based on a phrase originated by President Hoover) describing Prohibition -- still the law of the land in 1929. |
