Description | Cartoon shows President Calvin Coolidge, seated beside a cradle (labeled "I Do Not Choose"), preparing to give a large sleeping baby medicine from a bottle labeled "C.C. Sleeping Potion." Beside him stand two bottles labeled "C.C. Reiteration Relief," and "Cal's Cam-pain Silencer." Throngs outside the window call out "Draft Coolidge," "Draft Cal!" and "We want C.C." In 1927, Coolidge announced that he would not run for re-election, distributing strips of paper reading "I do not choose to run for President in nineteen twenty-eight." His supporters, however, continued to agitate for him to change his mind right up to the start of the Republican Convention. |
