Description | Cartoon shows President Calvin Coolidge relaxing on the front porch of the White House smoking a cigar with a dog and cat at his feet. In 1920, Warren G. Harding had followed a "Front Porch" campaign during his campaign for the presidency, meeting with leaders at his home in Marion, Ohio. Coolidge, who sì³®ded Harding as president, when Harding died suddenly in 1923, followed a similar strategy from the White House, itself, when he ran for president in 1924. He made few speeches and left the campaigning up to his fiery Vice Presidential running mate, Charles G. Dawes. |
