Description | Cartoon shows President-Elect Hoover sitting on the deck of a warship reading a newspaper that says, "Washington News. Congress Convenes President's M [sic]." Papers on the deck around him read "Hoover Cabinet Slate" and "Hoover Cabinet Selections." Around him are wreaths reading "Welcome to South America" and doves poking olive branches into the mouths of the guns. After winning the presidential election in November 1928, Hoover immediately set out on a six-week good will tour of Latin America. Since Hoover was known for his efficiency, the cartoonist assumes that he must be keeping up with politics in Washington and settling on his Cabinet nominations. Actually his cabinet was not selected until close to his inauguration in March. |
