Description | Cartoon shows Senator Kenneth McKellar fishing from a the edge of a dam labeled "T.V.A." Instead of a fish, he pulls up an old boot labeled "House Vote 138-24 against McKellar Amendment." McKellar complains that he thought he had caught something. In 1944, McKellar, furious with TVA head David Lilienthal, introduced an amendment that would have taken fiscal independence away from the vast electric power authority and made it dependent on Congressional appropriations. This move, which would probably have crippled the TVA, was readily defeated. |
