Description | World War II cartoon shows President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill seated at a banquet table before a cake with two candles labeled "Atlantic Charter." Roosevelt predicts that it won't be long before they can eat it. In August 1943, two years after the signing of the Atlantic Charter which embodied the Allied war aims, Churchill visited Roosevelt at his home in Hyde Park. Berryman's cartoon reflects the fact that by mid 1943, the tide had turned and it was probably just a matter of time before the Axis Powers were defeated. |
