Description | World War II cartoon shows Vice President Henry Wallace pulling a large fish labeled "American Fascists" across a road labeled "Our War against Fascism." A red herring was traditionally dragged across a trail to divert hounds from the scent of the fox. On July 24, Wallace, one of the most liberal members of the government, called businessmen who did not support Roosevelt's policies "Fascists." Berryman accuses him of trying to divert the American public's attention from the pressing needs of the war. |
