Description | World War II cartoon shows Uncle Sam offering a large bunch of flowers with a tag reading "Appreciation" to a sweet-faced teacher sitting behind a desk piled with Ration Cards. A long line of people wait in line behind Uncle Sam. Sugar was the first food item to be rationed during the war. In the spring of 1942, citizens lined up to obtain Ration Book One distributed by the teachers in the schools. Berryman takes the occasion to pay a tribute to the teachers of America. |
