Thomas watch from the shadows. In April 1941, four striking miners were killed during a strike in Kentucky. The United Mine Workers accused the company of firing machine guns at the workers. Lewis said he would refuse to submit the labor dispute to the National Labor Mediation Board, which he accused of strike busting. Lewis was a veteran of many confrontations with business, government, and even other labor leaders. |
