Description | World War II cartoon, drawn on Christmas Eve, showing President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Churchill leaning out the windows of the White House, wearing pajamas and nightcaps. On the roof can be seen two reindeer. Roosevelt says, "Go back to bed, Winston, that noise on the roof is probably Stalin or Chiang Kai-Shek coming to join the conference." When the United States entered the war after the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, Churchill immediately visited Washington, arriving on December 22 for consultations with Roosevelt. Berryman suggests that the other Allied leaders may soon be wishing to consult as well. |
