Description | World War II cartoon shows a man with an enormous head, labeled "The World," lying in bed staring in terror at the ceiling. In a room on the floor above, Mussolini sits on a bed with one boot off, preparing to drop the other. Italy had refused to join Germany when the war began in September 1939, but by June 1940, with Hitler's armies victorious over much of Europe, it was becoming clear that if Mussolini were to share in the spoils, Italy would have to come in quickly. The other shoe finally dropped on June 10, when Italy declared war on Britain and France. |
