What worries me is, I find no anger here toward Hiss to match his anger toward McCarthy

Description | Cartoon shows the figure of Columbia peering into Adlai Stevenson's head. Along with the caption, expresses the right-wing view that the Democratic presidential candidate was unfair in not balancing his criticism of Senator McCarthy with criticism of Alger Hiss, who had been accused of being a Soviet spy and convicted of perjury. Clarence Batchelor (1888-1977) drew for the New York Daily News for 38 years. He and his paper increasingly disenchanted with liberalism and by 1952 sympathized with McCarthy's rhetoric. |
