NDLI: Production. Tin smelting. A sample of slag from one of the furnaces of a Southern tin smelting plant is tested to determine its tin content. After it has cooled, the sample is sent to the plant laboratory for analysis. At this smelter, the most modern plant of its kind in the world, pure tin is extracted from South American ore to meet the countless war demands of the United Nations
