Description | Print shows birds-eye view of the key locations between Passau, Germany and Linz, Austria along the Danube River in the Peasants' War in Upper Austria which was a rebellion led by farmers in 1626 whose goal was to free Upper Austria from Bavarian rule. After the uprising, Adam von Heberstorff, the Bavarian steward of Upper Austria called together all the men from the region including the three dozen who had instigated the uprising. After sentencing these men to death, half were allowed to go free, determined by the roll of dice. The peasant farmers, 6000 strong, marched to Linz to occupy the city in protest. |
