| Abstract | This map delineates the Pallisa District of eastern Uganda, which is bordered by Kumi District to the north, Budaka District to the east, Butaleja District to the southeast, Namutumba District to the south, Kaliro District to the west, and Kamuli District and Soroti District to the northwest. Pallisa, the chief town of the district, is located approximately 65 kilometers by road west of Mbale, the largest city in the sub-region. The map shows the main economic activities carried out within the region, the most important of which are subsistence-crop agriculture and animal husbandry. Other economic activities are fishing, fish farming, and bee keeping. Major crops include cassava, millet, sorghum, maize, groundnuts, beans, peas, sweet potatoes, rice, cotton, sunflowers, soybeans, bananas, and matoke. Cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, and pigs are all raised in the district. An important feature of the geography of this region is the Lake Kyoga system, which is comprised of Lake Kyoga and eight other lakes: Lake Lemwa, Lake Kawi, Lake Nakwa, Lake Meito, Lake Geme, Lake Omunuo, Lake Nyanzala, and Lake Nyaguo. The scale of the map is 1:50,000. Distance scales are given in miles, feet, and kilometers; elevations above sea level are marked in feet. |
