Description | Behdeinkhlam is one of the popular and colourful festivals celebrated by the Pnars in the Jaintia hills of Meghalaya, one of the North-eastern states of India. The festival is being celebrated annually from time immemorial to drive away evil and to restore the pure and the good in life. This festival was recorded in July 1992 in the district of Jowai as a part of the Akademi's programme of documenting the arts of the tribal peoples of India. Video recording of more than 3 hours was made out of which a short film of 16 minutes duration has been compiled capturing briefly the important elements and moments of the festival. The Film has received an Award Certificate in the 1994 Sony/ICD Video Contest in Tokyo Japan. [Directed and compiled by Sujata Miri] |
