Description | Gavri is a semi-musical and dramatical form performed by the Bheel Tribe of Mewar. The performers perform in an open space. The performers choose any suitable place near their village and start performing Gavri. For the Bheel Community it is a media through which they feel their connectivity with Lord Shiva. This is presented at various places in and around Udaipur. The word “Gavri” refers to Goddess ‘Gauriʼ, wife of Lord Shiva. Bheels believe that by the blessings of Goddess Gauri they will get free from all the miseries and pains of life. They also believe that Goddess Gauri enters a human body and announces the commencement of Gavri and the message is then passed to the Bhopa, the priest. |
