Electron capture from Tl + (6s²) and Li + by protons

Description | The impact parameter version of the two-state approximation is used to calculate the cross sections for the two processes, (A) H(+) + Li(+) (1s2) to H(ls) + Li(+2)(ls), (B) H(+) + Tl(+) (6s2) to H(ls) + Tl(+2))6s). The corresponding differential equations were integrated numerically with and without momentum transfer (mt) for process (A), but owing to the numerical complexity of the equations describing process (B) only the case mt = 0 was evaluated. Cross sections for (A) are compared with and without the inclusion of mt, and similarities between the two processes, (A) and (B), are discussed.
