Description | The Recollections is a book by French aristocrat and historian Alexis de Tocqueville, first published in 1893. The work is a private journal of which Tocqueville never intended to publish during his lifetime. It was published by his wife and his friend Gustave de Beaumont after his death. It concerns the events of the French Revolution of 1848, a brief period of civil unrest in France, that led to the collapse of the Kingdom of France under Louis Philippe I, and the foundation of the French Second Republic. After these events, Tocqueville was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly of 1848, where he became a member of the commission charged with the drafting of the new Constitution of the Second Republic. This book has 97,673 words, 153 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1893.
