Description | Anticipations is a book by English writer H. G. Wells, first published in 1901. The full title of the book is 'Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress upon Human Life and Thought', and it contains nine essays in which Wells predicts how certain things will be in future societies. It is a fascinating mix of accurate forecasts, (development of cars, buses and trucks, use of flying machines in combat, decline of permanent marriage), and wild misses, including the prediction that submarines will suffocate their crews at sea. The book was a best-seller in it's day and Wells called it 'the keystone to the main arch of my work.' This book has 80,085 words, 113 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1901. ** This ebook of Anticipations was published by Global Grey in 2018, and updated on the 9th January 2023. The artwork used for the cover is 'The Railway Station, Redfern' by Arthur Streeton. |
